How the estimator works
National reference and state adjustment
With no state adjustment, the tool uses the selected provider's published job range. With a state selected, SheFix multiplies each endpoint by that state's 2024 services-other regional price parity divided by 100. These BEA regional price parities are distributed through Federal Reserve FRED, with the U.S. price level set to 100.
The broad services index excludes housing rents. It is a planning proxy, not a trade-specific labor index, contractor quote dataset, or BEA-endorsed home repair model. The data was released February 19, 2026. A state adjustment does not measure a particular city, ZIP, neighborhood or property.
For a labor-only job, an optional fixture allowance comes from your own input and is added once, after the state adjustment. Jobs whose source does not separate materials do not offer that allowance. Displayed endpoints round to the nearest $5. Compare the unadjusted published range alongside the modeled result.
Is my quote fair?
A quote within the reference may still have exclusions; one above it may include more work, materials or warranty. Compare two or more itemized estimates for the same scope. Ask about travel, service minimums, permits, access, emergency timing and hidden conditions. The tool reports a comparison, not a verdict on the business.
What information is saved or shared?
No account or email is needed. The calculator does not save your quote or checklist choices to an account or analytics. Entering a ZIP and calculating sends that ZIP to Zippopotam.us for a city/state lookup. You can skip that lookup by using a city and selecting the property state. Shared result links include only job and state, not your quote, city, ZIP or checklist answers. Standard site visit and conversion analytics follow SheFix's privacy settings.
